Inland Kayak 2* Foundation (K2F)


This course is open to CFAV’s and cadets aged 16+ from the ACF and CCF. ATC and SCC bids are welcome on a fill up basis.
This is a 5-day introduction to inland Kayaking (K2F) in a sheltered water environment. Candidates must be water confident and be able to swim 25mts wearing a Buoyancy Aid.
The course content includes clothing and equipment, access and conservation, river hazards and grading, weather, lifting, carrying and launching, efficient forward paddling, Manoeuvring the kayak in confined spaces, sideways movement and self/group rescues.

Upon successful completion of this course candidates will be issued a CCAT K2F brassard badge (cadets only) and course certificate.

Candidates who successfully complete both K2F and O2F will be awarded with a BCU 2 star award.

For CFAV’s this is the skills entry level for the BCU UKCC Level 1 Coaching qualification.

The personal contribution for this course is £35; bids must be placed through WESTMINSTER and will not be excepted until the course fee has been received. Personal contributions will not be refunded for any cancellations received less than 7 days prior to the course commencing.

BCU 3* White Water Kayak (K3N)

This course is open to CFAV’s and cadets aged 16+ from the ACF and CCF. ATC and SCC bids are welcome on a fill up basis.
This is a 5-day BCU 3 star White Water Kayak training and assessment course in a moving water environment. Candidates must be water confident and be able to swim 25mts wearing a Buoyancy Aid.
The course content includes clothing and equipment, access and conservation, river hazards and grading, weather, lifting, carrying and launching, efficient forward/reverse paddling, edging, turning strokes, support strokes, breaking in/out and ferry gliding. This course includes a pool based kayak rolling clinic.

Upon successful completion of this course candidates will be issued a CCAT (K3N) brassard badge (cadets only), and a BCU 3* White Water certificate

For CFAV’s this is the skills entry level for the BCU UKCC Level 2 Coaching qualification.

Candidates must have the following pre-requisites to attend this course:

  • Hold BCU new 2 star award or KFC/K2F
  • Have logbook evidence of at least 3 journeys on varying sheltered and 3 on moving waters (grade 2) of at least 4 hours Duration (10Km)

BCU 4* White Water Kayak Leader (Training)

These courses are open to CFAV’s from the ACF and CCF (Army) section. ATC and SCC bids are welcome on a fill up basis. The BCU 4* White Water Inland Kayak is a 2-day training course.

Candidates must be water confident and be able to swim 25mts wearing a Buoyancy Aid.

This award is discipline specific (Inland Kayak) and is relevant for coaches who wish to lead competent paddlers (BCU 3*) in the white water environment, Grade 2 extended to grade 3 when full white water spec kayaks are being used.

Prior to attending this course candidates must have successfully completed the relevant BCU3* award and ideally White Water Safety and Rescue training.

The personal contribution for this course is £35; bids must be placed through WESTMINSTER and will not be excepted until the course fee has been received. Personal contributions will not be refunded for any cancellations received less than 7 days prior to the course commencing.

BCU 4* White Water Kayak Leader (Assessment)

This course is open to CFAV’s from the ACF and CCF (Army) section. ATC and SCC bids are welcome on a fill up basis. The BCU 4* White Water Inland Kayak is a 2-day assessment course.

Candidates must be water confident and be able to swim 25mts wearing a Buoyancy Aid.

This award is discipline specific (Inland Kayak) and is relevant for coaches who wish to lead competent paddlers (BCU 3*) in the white water environment, Grade 2 extended to grade 3 when full white water spec kayaks are being used.

Prior to attending this assessment, candidate must have completed the following pre-requisites:
BCU 4* training course and have a NGB indate authorised LR form
Provide logged evidence of 12 river trips (minimum 4 hours duration) in four different locations.
6 grade 3 river trips as a member of a group
6 grade 2-3 river trips as an assistant leader
White Water Safety & Rescue Training
