Halton Training Camp
Restrictions. This course is open to CFAV’s and Cadets aged 16years + from the ACF and CCF. ATC and SCC CFAV bids are welcome on a top up basis only. Some previous indoor rock climbing experience would be beneficial.
Course Content. This is a 5 day introduction to rock climbing in a single pitch environment. The content includes clothing and equipment, access and conservation, weather, care and use of equipment, rope management and knot tying, belaying techniques, climbing techniques, single pitch climbing, abseiling, setting up belays, gear placement/protection. The outcome is for the candidate to be a competent rock climber in an outdoor single pitch environment.
Mountain Training (MT) Rock Climbing Skills Introduction Award. CFAVs and Senior Cadets are strongly encouraged to register with Mountain Training (MT) for the Rock Climbing Skills Introduction Award through the Candidate Management System (CMS). Having registered for the scheme and on completion of the BRC course you will receive a nationally accredited award. Registration is simple using the link below. Registration cannot be completed in retrospect so ensure you register well in advance of the course start date. If you wish to qualify for the Rock Climbing Skills Introduction award here’s what to do next:
• Create an account on our Candidate Management System or log in if you already have one.
• Register for the Rock Climbing Skills Introduction Award. Registration is free for Cadets under 18years and cost £20 for adults.
• Ensure your MT candidate registration number is put on the CCAT course application.
Notes. Candidates should be physically fit, free from injury and have a keen interest in adventurous activities. This course may be used towards a gold DofE residential project. Upon successful completion of this course candidates will be issued a CCAT course certificate and brassard badge (cadets only).
CPD. CFAVs who are Rock Climbing Instructor trained can apply to attend the BRC as an observer to further develop their skills and experience. Qualified Single Pitch Award (old SPA) or Rock Climbing Instructors who are already qualified can attend the BRC as an observer to refresh and update their skills with current best practice.
CCAT Application Process.
A CCAT course application is available on WESTMINSTER and the CCAT website

An electronic course application needs to be placed onto WESTMINSTER by your ACF/CCF unit.
The CCAT course application form needs to be completed in full, legible signed and authorised by your unit ACF/CCF. The course application needs to be sent to HQ CCAT, Capel Curig, by post or email with the course fee (cheque made payable to CCAT or BACs). Ensure the name of the student and course is written on the back of the cheque or included in the BACs payment reference.
