Restrictions. This course is open to CFAV’s and Cadets aged 16years + from the ACF and CCF. ATC and SCC CFAV bids are welcome on a top up basis only. Some previous indoor rock climbing experience would be beneficial.
Course Content. This is a 5 day introduction to rock climbing in a single pitch environment. The content includes clothing and equipment, access and conservation, weather, care and use of equipment, rope management and knot tying, belaying techniques, climbing techniques, single pitch climbing, abseiling, setting up belays, gear placement/protection. The outcome is for the candidate to be a competent rock climber in an outdoor single pitch environment.
Notes. Candidates should be physically fit, free from injury and have a keen interest in adventurous activities. This course may be used towards a gold DofE residential project. Upon successful completion of this course candidates will be issued a CCAT course certificate and brassard badge (cadets only).
CPD. CFAVs who are Rock Climbing Instructor trained can apply to attend the BRC as an observer to further develop their skills and experience. Qualified Single Pitch Award (old SPA) or Rock Climbing Instructors who are already qualified can attend the BRC as an observer to refresh and update their skills with current best practice.
CCAT Application Process.
A CCAT course application is available on WESTMINSTER and the CCAT website www.armycadetadventure.co.uk. The course fee is £40.00. An electronic course application is required to be placed onto WESTMINSTER by your ACF/CCF unit. The CCAT course application form should be completed in full, is legible, signed and authorised by your unit ACF/CCF.
The fully completed CCAT course application should then be sent to HQ CCAT, Capel Curig, either by:
a. Email with the payment paid by BACs with student name + course i.e. Smith H1/BRC in the banking reference (preferable).
b. Post with a cheque made payable to CCAT ensuring the name of the student and course is written on the back of the cheque.
