Restrictions. This course is open to CFAV’s and Cadets aged 16 plus from the ACF and CCF. ATC and SCC CFAV bids are welcome on a top up basis only. Candidates must have the ability to swim confidently in the open water and river environment wearing normal paddling clothes.
Course Content. This Intermediate Kayak Award (IKA) is a 5-day course delivered in a moving water environment (Grade 2). The course content includes clothing and equipment, access and conservation, river hazards and grading, weather, lifting, carrying and launching, efficient forward/reverse paddling, edging, and moving sideways, support strokes, breaking in/out, ferry gliding, group/self/deep water rescues, rolling and safety training. The outcome of this course is for the candidate to demonstrate personal competence in paddling grade 2-3 moving water as part of a led group. The British Canoeing White Water Award is incorporated into this course.
Candidates must have the following pre-requisites to attend this course:
• Hold the BCU 2 star award or K2F.
• Have logbook evidence of at least 3 journeys on varying sheltered water venues and 3 on moving water rivers (grade 2) of at least a 4 hour Duration (10Km)
.
Upon successful completion of this course candidates will be issued a British Canoeing White Water Award. This qualification is the pre entry level of award to apply for the British Canoeing Awarding Body (BCAB) Paddlesport Leader.
This course may be used towards a gold DofE residential project.
CCAT Application Process.
A CCAT course application is available on WESTMINSTER and the CCAT website
www.armycadetadventure.co.uk The course fee is £40.00.
An electronic course application needs to be placed onto WESTMINSTER by your ACF/CCF unit.
The CCAT course application form needs to be completed in full, legible signed and authorised by your unit ACF/CCF. The course application needs to be sent to HQ CCAT, Capel Curig, by post or email with the course fee (cheque made payable to CCAT or BACs). Ensure the name of the student and course is written on the back of the cheque or included in the BACs payment reference.
