This course is open to Cadets aged 18+ and CFAV’s from the ACF and CCF. CFAV ATC and SCC bids are welcome on a fill up basis.
The BCU 4* open canoe is a 2-day assessment course. Candidates must be water confident and be able to swim 25mts wearing a Buoyancy Aid.
This award is discipline specific (Open Canoe) and is relevant for coaches who wish to lead competent paddlers (BCU 3*) in the white water and open water environment,
Prior to attending this assessment, candidate must have completed the following pre-requisites:
BCU 4* training course and have a NGB in date authorised LR form
Provide evidence of 12 trips (minimum four hours duration) that includes at least:
3 different grade 2 river trips and 3 different open water journeys with winds up to
force 4 (minimum 4 hours duration), as a member of a group
3 different grade 1-2 river trips and 3 different open water journeys with winds up to
force 3, (minimum 4 hours duration), as an assistant leader
The above journeys should involve some overnight camps
White Water Safety & Rescue Training
The personal contribution for this course is £40; bids must be placed through WESTMINSTER and will not be accepted until the course fee has been received. Personal contributions will not be refunded for any cancellations received less than 7 days prior to the course commencing.
