The BCU UKCC Level 1 Coach is a 5-day Training and Assessment course.
The BCU UKCC Level 1 Coach is the entry point for most coaches coming into the BCU Coaching Scheme. It is a non-discipline specific and therefore the course provides coaches with the fundamental knowledge to work with paddlers in a variety of craft in a very sheltered water environment under the direct supervision of a BCU level 2 coach or higher.
This 5 day course will incorporate Foundation Safety and Rescue training (FSRT) for candidates who require this as a pre-requisite.
This course covers planning, delivery, and reviewing of short coaching sessions. They can work with paddlers at any stage of their development; receiving specific training to coach paddlers in their first year of activity and to conduct ‘taster’ sessions. Once qualified BCU UKCC Level 1 coaches can apply to the BCU to deliver Paddle Power Start and BCU 1* awards.
Candidates must have the following pre-requisites to attend this course:
- Hold BCU new 2 star award
- Completed Foundation Safety and Rescue Training (FSRT) (this can be complete as part of the course)
- Registered with their Home Nation at a personal cost of £39 for members and £55 for non members(NGB Canoe England, SCA, WCA, CANI), have an authorised CR Form and the Level 1 Coach workbook prior to commencing the course.
- NGB registration should be done at least 4-6 weeks prior to the course commencing
Candidates can not complete the award without this documentation and will be automatically deferred.
The personal contribution for this course is £40; bids will not be accepted until the course fee has been received. Personal contributions will not be refunded for any cancellations received less than 7 days prior to the course commencing.
There will be 12 vacancies on this course.
