Restrictions. This course is open to CFAV’s from the ACF and CCF (Army) section. ATC and SCC CFAV bids are welcome on a top up basis only. Candidates must be confident swimming in canoe clothing in a grade 2 moving water environment. Senior Cadets over 17years may also apply.
Course Content. The British Canoeing White Water Safety and Rescue Training (WWS&RT) is a 2- day training course. This course is designed for all white-water paddlers, canoe and kayak. The objective is to teach simple and safe skills that can be applied appropriately.
Course Aims
• To improve individuals awareness of safety skills in the river environment.
• To teach personal survival skills.
• To teach basic throw line rescue techniques.
• To understand the need for structure in an emergency situation
• To outline basic rescue protocols that prioritise the safety of the individual above all others.
• To introduce & develop the ‘clean rope’ principle

The philosophy is to teach practical skills in a practical manner. By its very nature the course is ‘hands on’ and should not usually contain much classroom work. Any theory should be limited to short riverside sessions, the duration of which will be naturally limited.
CCAT Application Process.
A CCAT course application is available on WESTMINSTER and the CCAT website
www.armycadetadventure.co.uk The course fee is £40.00.
An electronic course application needs to be placed onto WESTMINSTER by your ACF/CCF unit.
The CCAT course application form needs to be completed in full, legible signed and authorised by your unit ACF/CCF. The course application needs to be sent to HQ CCAT, Capel Curig, by post or email with the course fee (cheque made payable to CCAT or BACs). Ensure the name of the student and course is written on the back of the cheque or included in the BACs payment reference.
