Capel Curig Training Camp
Restrictions. This course is open to CFAV’s from the ACF and CCF. ATC and SCC CFAV bids are welcome on a top up basis only. Senior Cadets 18 years plus may apply for this course. Candidates must be confident swimming in canoe clothing in a grade 2 moving water environment
Course Content. The BC Moderate Water Leader Training (MWLT) is a 2-day course.
The content for White Water Kayak Leader includes forward paddling, breaking in and out, ferry gliding, s-turns, surf small waves, paddle into and out of small stoppers, moving sideways on the move, supporting, changing direction, tactical decisions, demonstrate skilful application of appropriate boat and bank-based safety and rescue skills, leadership, navigation, river hazards, access and the environment and weather.
Training is valid for 3 years, during this time, and upon completion of the assessment prerequisites candidates can then put themselves forward for assessment.
Moderate Water Definition
Inland: Large areas of open water that exceed the sheltered water definition, where the paddlers are no more than 500 metres off shore and in wind strengths that do not exceed Beaufort force 4.
White Water: Grade 2(3) white water or equivalent weirs.
• White Water – BCU 3* WW or IKA/BC WW Award
• and preferable BC WWSRT
This award is discipline specific (Kayak or Open Canoe). Candidates are to indicate their chosen craft on the CCAT course application form.
CCAT Application Process.
A CCAT course application is available on WESTMINSTER and the CCAT website www.armycadetadventure.co.uk. The course fee is £40.00. An electronic course application is required to be placed onto WESTMINSTER by your ACF/CCF unit. The CCAT course application form should be completed in full, is legible, signed and authorised by your unit ACF/CCF.
The fully completed CCAT course application should then be sent to HQ CCAT, Capel Curig, either by:
a. Email with the payment paid by BACs with student name + course i.e. Smith H1/BRC in the banking reference (preferable).
b. Post with a cheque made payable to CCAT ensuring the name of the student and course is written on the back of the cheque.
