This course is open to CFAV’s and cadets aged 16+ from the ACF and CCF as indicated. ATC and SCC CFAV only bids are welcome on a fill up basis.
This is an 8-day single and multi-pitch ice climbing expedition incorporating the JS Winter Climbing Foundation award. This is an opportunity to climb single and multi-pitch graded ice routes to gain further logbook experience.
Candidates must have successfully completed a BRC/RCF and have experience of working in a cold winter environment (-20 degrees) as a minimum pre-requisite to attending this course.
This course includes clothing and equipment, winter mountain hazards, avalanche awareness, care and use of equipment, rope management and knot tying, belaying techniques, ice climbing techniques, multi pitch climbing, abseiling, belays systems, gear placement/protection, introduction to leading on ice.
Candidates will be transported to and from Norway by air; all members of the expedition will be accommodated in apartments on a self-catering basis. Climbing equipment will be provided by CCAT if required. Full expedition insurance and instruction is included.
To apply, candidates are to complete a CCAT Course application; this along with a 50% course deposit payment is to be sent to the candidate’s ACF County HQ or CCF Contingent HQ for authorisation and for the bid to be placed on WESTMINSTER. Candidates are to ensure the course application is clearly legible and completed in full. The personal contribution for this course is £450.00. Course payments will not be refunded for any cancellations received less than 7 days prior to the course commencing.
