Restrictions. This is open to CFAV’s and cadets aged 17years + from the ACF and CCF. This is not a course for novices as the candidate does require a combination of some winter mountaineering and rock climbing experience plus a good head for heights. Candidates must have successfully completed the WMF and BRC award or have the equivalent experience which must be identified on the CCAT course application.
Course Content. The Rjukan area of Norway boasts some of the best ice climbing in the world. Easy to access canyons and awe inspiring multi-pitch frozen waterfalls provide almost unlimited challenges for beginners to intermediate climbers alike. The CADET NORICE expedition is a 6-day introduction to climbing in winter environmental conditions (snow and ice). The content includes clothing and equipment, winter mountain hazards, weather, rope management and knot tying, belaying techniques, multi pitch winter climbing using ice climbing tools and crampons up to grade 2/3, abseiling, setting up anchors and ice screw placement. The outcome of the CADET NORICE course is for the candidate to achieve the IWC award and be a competent second on a multi pitch winter (snow and ice) climb.
Notes. Candidates should be physically fit, free from injury and have a keen interest in adventurous activities. This course may be used towards a gold DofE residential project. Upon successful completion of this course candidates will be issued a CCAT course certificate and brassard badge (cadets only).
*The course cost includes: transport from and back to the UK, accommodation, meals, technical clothing and equipment and instruction.
*The course will be based at a lodge in Rjukan Hytteby, Norway.
CCAT Application Process.
A CCAT course application is available on WESTMINSTER and the CCAT website www.armycadetadventure.co.uk. The course fee is £450.00. An electronic course application is required to be placed onto WESTMINSTER by your ACF/CCF unit. The CCAT course application form should be completed in full, is legible, signed and authorised by your unit ACF/CCF. A 50% deposit of £225 is required.
The fully completed CCAT course application should then be sent to HQ CCAT, Capel Curig, either by:
a. Email with the deposit/payment paid by BACs with student name + course i.e. Smith – Norice in the banking reference (preferable).
b. Post with a cheque made payable to CCAT ensuring the name of the student and course is written on the back of the cheque.
