Restrictions. This course is open to CFAV’s and Cadets aged 17years + from the ACF and CCF. This is not an expedition for novices. Candidates must have completed the Introduction to Sea Kayaking (ISK) course or have equivalent experience which must be clearly identified on the CCAT course application. Candidates must have the ability to swim confidently in the open water environment wearing normal paddling clothes.
Course Content. The Lofoten Islands are an archipelago of islands in Norway far above the Arctic Circle. This rare wilderness outpost offers an amazing landscape of majestic mountains, deep fjords, puffin colonies and long, surf-swept beaches. The CADETSEA expedition is a 10-day course. delivered in a moderate water environment. The course content includes clothing and equipment, lifting, carrying, launching and landing, efficient forward paddling, efficient reverse paddling and stopping, maintaining direction, changing direction, moving sideways, both static and on the move, supporting, both static and on the move, rolling, deep-water rescue, contact tows and use of towline and eskimo rescue. The outcome of this course is for the candidate to demonstrate personal competence in their sea paddling skills in a moderate water environment (wind up to and including Beaufort Force 3 or Sea State 3), as part of a led group. The British Canoeing Sea Award is incorporated into this course.
Notes. Candidates should be physically fit, free from injury and have a keen interest in adventurous activities. This course may be used towards a gold DofE residential project. Upon successful completion of this course candidates will be issued a CCAT course certificate and brassard badge (cadets only).
*The course cost includes: transport from and back to the UK, accommodation, meals, technical clothing and equipment and instruction.
*The course will be based at a lodge in Sandvika Fjord, Lofoten, Norway.
CCAT Application Process.
A CCAT course application is available on WESTMINSTER and the CCAT website

An electronic course application needs to be placed onto WESTMINSTER by your ACF/CCF unit.
The CCAT course application form needs to be completed in full, legible signed and authorised by your unit ACF/CCF. The course application needs to be sent to HQ CCAT, Capel Curig, by post or email with the course fee (50% deposit cheque made payable to CCAT or BACs). Ensure the name of the student and course is written on the back of the cheque or included in the BACs payment reference.
