Restrictions. This is open to Cadets aged 17 years+ and CFAV’s from the ACF and CCF. Candidates applying to attend the BST are to have successfully completed the BSA /SF1 and ISA / ISC (equivalent experience must be identified on the CCAT course application.
Course Content. The Basic Ski Touring (BST) is a 5-day course. This course is an introduction to alpine ski touring (a minimum of 40% of course time will be spent in off-piste terrain). The content will include ski touring clothing and equipment, winter hazards, planning and participating in a tour, avalanche awareness and avoidance, movement of skis in ascent and descent, navigation on skis, route choice and finding. The outcome of the BST is for the candidate to demonstrate a basic level of skill in alpine ski touring skills to be a competent member of a led group on basic ski touring expeditions.
Notes. Candidates should be physically fit, free from injury and have a keen interest in adventurous activities. This course may be used towards a gold DofE residential project. Upon successful completion of this course candidates will be issued a CCAT course certificate and brassard badge (cadets only).
*The course cost includes: transport from and back to the UK, accommodation, meals, technical clothing and equipment and instruction.
*The course will be based at a lodge in Sonthofen, Bavaria.
CCAT Application Process.
A CCAT course application is available on WESTMINSTER and the CCAT website

An electronic course application needs to be placed onto WESTMINSTER by your ACF/CCF unit.
The CCAT course application form needs to be completed in full, legible signed and authorised by your unit ACF/CCF. The course application needs to be sent to HQ CCAT, Capel Curig, by post or email with the course fee (50% deposit cheque made payable to CCAT or BACs). Ensure the name of the student and course is written on the back of the cheque or included in the BACs payment reference.
