Restrictions. This is course open to CFAV’s from the ACF and CCF. Candidates applying to attend the SF3 are to have successfully completed SF2.
Course Content. The Ski Foundation Level 3 (SF3) is a 5-day continuation training and further development beyond the SF2 award (a minimum of 80% of course time will be spent in off-piste terrain). The content will include ski touring clothing and equipment, winter hazards, planning and participating in a tour, avalanche awareness and avoidance, movement of skis in ascent and descent, navigation on skis, route choice and an introduction to moderately steep slopes and strategies to cope. The course will also include an overnight expedition using an alpine mountain hut The outcome of the SF3 is for the candidate to demonstrate a competent level of skill in alpine ski touring skills to be an effective member of a led group on extended ski touring expeditions.
Notes. Candidates should be physically fit, free from injury and have a keen interest in adventurous activities. The SF3 is the entry level award to apply for the Joint Service Ski Leader Level 1 course.
*The course cost includes: transport from and back to the UK, accommodation, meals, technical clothing and equipment and instruction.
*The course will be based at a lodge in Sonthofen, Bavaria.
CCAT Application Process.
A CCAT course application is available on WESTMINSTER and the CCAT website www.armycadetadventure.co.uk. The course fee is £500.00. An electronic course application is required to be placed onto WESTMINSTER by your ACF/CCF unit. The CCAT course application form should be completed in full, is legible, signed and authorised by your unit ACF/CCF. A 50% deposit of £250 is required.
The fully completed CCAT course application should then be sent to HQ CCAT, Capel Curig, either by:
a. Email with the deposit/payment paid by BACs with student name + course i.e. Smith – Ski2/SF3 in the banking reference (preferable).
b. Post with a cheque made payable to CCAT ensuring the name of the student and course is written on the back of the cheque.
