The Winter Climbing Foundation is a 5-day introduction to climbing in winter conditions. The course content includes clothing and equipment, winter mountain hazards, weather, elementary climbing skills to grade 2/3, emergency shelters, use of crampons and ice axe, Ice axe arrest and short roping skills.
Candidates enrolled in the DofE at gold level may use this course as a residential project. Candidates should be reasonably physically fit, free from injury and have a keen interest in adventurous activities. For adults it can be used as CPD and logbook experience towards a MTS Mountain Leader Winter Training course.
The personal contribution for this course is £50; bids must be placed through WESTMINSTER and will not be accepted until the course fee has been received. Personal contributions will not be refunded for any cancellations received less than 7 days prior to the course commencing.
Candidates must have successfully completed a WMF and BRC/RCF or equivalent as a minimum pre-requisite to attending this course.
This course is open to CFAV’s and cadets aged 17+ from the ACF and CCF. CFAV ATC and SCC bids are welcome on a fill up basis
